PNP PRO8 CONDEMNS ILLEGAL GAMBLING IN THE REGION

Camp Ruperto Kangleon – PRO8 heeds the call of the PNP Chief, POLICE DIRECTOR GENERAL NICANOR A BARTOLOME to stop and eradicate the existence of illegal numbers games in any part of the region.

On January 24, 2012 at about 10:00AM, Mahaplag Police led by PINSP MANUEL S NAYAD, COP conducted operation against a reported illegal gambling locally known as “tong-its” in Barangay Cuatro de Agosto, Mahaplag, Leyte which led to the recovery of a set of playing cards and bet money amounting to One Hundred Twenty pesos (P120.00) left behind by the persons involved who scampered to different directions and eluded arrest. Follow-up investigation is being conducted by Mahaplag Police for possible identity and arrest of the suspects.

At about 8:00AM on January 23, 2012, elements of Javier Police Station led by SPO1 ROMEO G ACABADO apprehended one ROGER GUIHAPON REYES, 45 years old, married and a resident of Barangay San Sotero, Javier, Leyte while engaging in illegal gambling known as “swertres” at said place. Confiscated from his possession and control were seven stubs with different number combinations, ball pen and bet money amounting to Sixty Five Pesos (P65.00).

Suspect with the illegal gambling paraphernalia were brought to Javier Police Station for documentation and proper disposition.

On the same date at about 1:00PM at Barangay San Jose, Dulag, Leyte, operatives of Dulag Police led by PSINSP ALBERTO R RENOMERON JR while conducting foot patrol arrested a certain LANDO DE PAZ SUYOM, 40 years old, married, farmer and a resident of said place on the act of soliciting and collecting bet money for illegal numbers game locally known as “swertres”.

Confiscated from his possession and control were stubs with different number combinations and bet money amounting to Thirty Five pesos (P35.00)

Subject person was brought to Dulag Police Station for documentation and proper disposition.

According to PSSUPT ELIZAR PATANO EGLOSO, Chief, RPCRD, PNP PRO8 condemns the existence of illegal gambling activities such as illegal numbers games as this has become an influential factor in an individual’s disregard for the value of dignified work, perseverance and thrift since instant monetary gains from it are being equated to success, thereby becoming a widespread social menace and a source of corruption.
