Better accommodation facilities will help convince tourists to visit EV

TACLOBAN CITY – Having better accommodation facilities will help in convincing more tourists to visit the region, this was according to Bing Lumbre of the regional office of the Department of Tourism(DOT).

Although there are existing hotels in the region, this according to Lumbre are not capable to host activities such as conferences that would take longer time while some do not have such kind of facility.

The rehabilitation and development of MacArthur Park Hotel now to be called as Leyte Oriental Hotel will help to address the problem on facilities that can host conferences.

He, however, stressed to businessmen who would like to put up facilities for accommodation to meet the guidelines for standards that are set by the DOT.

“Before it is optional for hotel operators to follow the standard but now it is mandatory,” Lumbre said.

Having hotels or accommodation facilities accredited with the DOT is beneficial to them as the tourism agency can help them in marketing and promotion of the business, Lumbre added.

Moreover, Lumbre added that aside from the accommodation facilities another sector that has to do with tourism that also needs help is on the aspect of tour guiding.

“There still need for investors in that field, we are hoping that there are businessmen who will engage in said business because it is one of the most important aspect in promoting tourism,” said Lumbre.
