City council approves resolution seeking assistance for rehab of SP building

TACLOBAN CITY – The members of the city council of Tacloban had approved a resolution asking assistance from the city mayor for the rehabilitation of the Sangguniang Panlungsod building.

This was revealed by City Vice-Mayor Arvin Antoni during the weekly press interview of the minority bloc.

Said resolution was sponsored by majority bloc member and Association of Barangay Chairmen president Eden Chua-Pineda.

The resolution, according to Antoni, is a vindication of sort for Councilor Neil Glova who earlier sponsored a resolution addressed to Mayor Alfred Romualdez asking to help them in their problem with the legislative building.

“I am very thankful of the resolution and hoping that it will be considered since it is already his ally that had asked for his assistance,” said Antoni, referring to Councilor Chua.

“But it doesn’t mean that the concern was asked by his ally will already be given an action, yet we will still wait for it,” Antoni added.

Members of the city council to include its employees and visitors had long been complaining of the condition of the legislative building that includes foul odor coming from the comfort room and dilapidated walls and ceiling that causes flooding during rainy days.

To recall, in the issue of problem of the legislative building, An Waray party-list Rep. Florencio “Bem” Noel had pledged to provide assistance to the members of the city council.

An amount of P2 million was allocated for the legislative building rehabilitation which is to be implemented by the regional office of the Department of Public Works and Highways.

It was learned that the DPWH is soon to start the legislative building rehabilitation after they are done with the bidding for the materials to be used in the project.
