Leyte SP passes a resolution allowing the governor to enter into a MOA with lending institutions

TACLOBAN CITY – Members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Leyte during their regular session on Tuesday passed a resolution allowing Governor Jericho “Icot” Petilla to enter into a memorandum of agreement with any banking or lending institutions and cooperatives and other companies.

Said MOA will allow employees of the provincial government to acquire loans to any banking or lending institution and cooperative and other companies with low interest rates.

The resolution also provides authority to the governor to revoke or discontinue the effectivity of previous MOA that were granted by the members of the Sanggunian to the same effect.

When asked to clarify of why they are granting an authority to the governor for entering into a MOA, Board Member Roque Tiu said that it was a result of the special session conducted by the members of the provincial board on December 19, which was requested by Gov. Petilla.

Tiu said that according to the governor, some employees of the provincial government are complaining that there are lending institutions allowing them to lend money yet only half of the amount is given to them while the other half was “in kind”.

“That is why the governor asked us to grant him an authority to enter into a MOA with other lending or banking institution to help the employees,” Tiu added.

The organization of Provincial Association of Government Employees (PAGE)and the cooperative in the provincial government according to Tiu will be handling the lending transactions.
