MAN ARRESTED FOR VIOLATION OF RA 9287

Camp Ruperto Kangleon, Palo, Leyte – The PNP’s persistence on enforcing Republic Act 9287 otherwise known as the “Anti-Illegal gambling” law leads to the arrest of JESSIE ANTIPALA, 32 years old, single, jobless and a resident of Barangay Bacolod, Hinundayan, Southern Leyte.

ANTIPALA was arrested by the elements of Hinunangan Municipal Police Station in coordination with Hinundayan Police Station by virtue of the Warrant of Arrest issued by Honorable ALTONE MIRALLES, Presiding Judge of RTC, 8th Judicial Region, Branch 26, Bulwagan ng Katarungan, San Juan, Southern Leyte dated July 5, 2011 docketed under Criminal Case Number 1714 for violation of RA 9287.

ANTIPALA was then brought to Hinunangan Police Station for proper disposition and subsequently turned-over to the issuing court.

According to PCSUPT ARNOLD R REVILLA, PRO 8 Regional Director explains that, under RA 9287, maintainers, managers and operators of outlawed gambling may be punished with imprisonment from 12 to 14 years while public officials and lawmen found protecting them may be jailed for 16 to 20 years. Gambling operators can be fined for P3M to P5M pesos.

PSSUPT ELIZAR P EGLOSO, Chief, Regional Police Community Relations also said that, supervisors, bet collectors and other workers of illegal gambling outfits may be jailed from 6 to 12 years. Even ordinary bettors may be imprisoned from 30 to 90 days.
