TACLOBAN CITY- Bothered by the almost series of killing incidents in the city, the members of the city council have asked city police director, Senior Superintendent Wilson Caubat, to appear before them for him to explain the security measures that he have put into place to stop further occurrence of such incidents.
Aside from discussing their crime solution activity to the members of the city council, Caubat is also expected to be asked on the complaints aired by some individuals on the implementation of redistricting of the police stations that reportedly caused inefficiency, Councilor Eden Chua-Pineda said.
In the span of two weeks, killing incidents took place in the city one involving a top official of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources here in the region.
The last Saturday, a still unidentified woman was killed and reportedly raped. Police authorities, however, were able to arrest three men said to be responsible on this rape slay.
Caubat, in an earlier, had maintained that Tacloban remain to be peaceful saying that the perpetrators on the killing incidents in the city have their “identified targets.”
Councilor Pineda, who is the association president of Barangay Chairmen here in the city, has also observed that the present structure of police stations had caused problem to victims of crime and for those who would like to seek police assistance.
The city police office has two police stations, one is located in Marasbaras area and the other one is in Abucay district.
“We wanted to know if what are their plans to address this problem because we also need a police station here in the central business district of the city to ensure that our business establishments and the public are safe from any possible crimes,” Pineda said.
Councilor Cristina G. Romualdez, meawhile, said that she support the call of Pineda on having a police station within the city proper.
Vice Mayor Arvin Antoni said that the re-districting of police stations in the city was the effect of Tacloban being now a highly-urbanized city.
“This structure is also implemented in big cities with same status of the city, we need to adapt to this situation because is it the effect of being a highly urbanize city. But even with this structure, the police must do their job by ensuring residents of this city and visitors will always be safe,” he explained. Roel Amazona
