PDEA warns stores to be wary of men posing as PDEA agents

TACLOBAN CITY – Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Regional Director Julius Navales categorically denied allegations on the report that there were PDEA agents assigned in the region who were reportedly involved in a robbery hold-up incident that occurred in this city.

Navales made this clarification amid report that a recent robbery hold-up incident has involved men wearing uniform of PDEA.

Navales added that based on the investigation have they conducted, the owner of the business establishment also cleared the involvement of PDEA agents in the said incident, adding that he does not believe that the members of the anti-illegal drug enforcement group will be involved in such crime.

With this report, Navales warned the public especially store and business establishment owners to be wary of elements using the name of PDEA to gain access to enter their establishments.

He added that storeowners and managers should be aware and vigilant on such kind of scrupulous activities, adding that identification cards that are used by such groups are fake. He had urged them to ask for the agency badge and mission order aside from ID cards as proof that the men operating in their establishments are indeed PDEA agents.

Navales added that the business owners can also contact their office to ensure that the men who identified as agents of the PDEA really belong to their agency.

This is especially significant in the case of pharmacies and hardware stores and similar establishments that secure licenses from the PDEA and are thus subject to periodic and unannounced inspections. (Roel Amazona)
