Husbands are invited to attend ‘Buntis Day, too

TACLOBAN CITY – Husbands must also be educated on the things that pregnant women must know as they are partners of their wives in the whole stage of pregnancy to ensure that both the mother and baby will be safe from the time of pregnancy until the delivery.

“They should be present during the Buntis Day celebration in order for them to know and hear on what are their roles in the entire stage of their wives pregnancy,” Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society Regional Director Doctor Fe Merin said during the weekly press forum “Express it at the Park”.

“There are instructions that we gave to mothers wherein sometimes the husbands cannot understand why their wives are doing some acts,” explains Merin.

Among things that doctors provided to pregnant women is for those who are experiencing vomiting during the first two months of their pregnancy which they prescribe women to take cold and sweet foods to get rid of the uncomfortable feeling of food taste during that stage.“If husbands are not aware of such things, they might be wondering why their wives are asking such things, so we also asked the men to join the “Buntis Forum” for them to understand the feeling and process that their wives are going through in the entire length of their pregnancy,” added Merin.

“They are the partners of their wives so they must know how to take good care of them,” Merin stressed.

With this, Merin had called for pregnant women who will be attending the “Buntis Day” celebration on March 10 at the Balyuan Convention Center to bring with them their husbands and participate in the discussions that will be shared by the speaker to pregnant women on things that should be done to ensure that they will have a safe pregnancy.

The activity will focus on providing essential health services needed by pregnant women with a theme “Millennium Pinay, Responsableng Nanay”.

Among the things that pregnant women and their husbands must do to ensure safe pregnancy is to have regular pre-natal check-up at least five times during her pregnancy period.

Blood examination and urinalysis are also important to ensure that pregnant women will be safe from any complications and remain healthy until such time they give birth, Merin said. (Roel Amazona)
