Yaokasin family turns over new school building

TACLOBAN CITY – The family of Councilor Jerry Yaokasin turned over on Monday one unit–two classroom building at San Fernando Elementary School, this city.

Yaokasin in an interview said that the turn-over ceremony of the two classroom building coincides on the first death anniversary of his father, Jimmy Yaokasin, Sr.

“All of us in the family are very fortunate that our dad provided us the best education,” he said.

According to him, with the best education his father had provided him he was able to be where he is now.
“Our father, during his younger years, made sure that we (his children) would be able to leave on our personal dreams.

Donating school buildings is like giving back to the people, the desire that my father had. This is an investment that our family can give for the city to have a good future,” Yaokasin added.

The councilor further said that having good education is the key to get out from poverty. “The city then would become progressive if all the communities are well educated.”

Furthermore, Yaokasin said that helping the government to address classroom shortage is a continuing advocacy that their family have, which he said that should not be associated with politics. “We would continue donating classroom to schools, for as long as we saw that there is a need to help them.”

The Express learned that the newly turn-over classroom is the third building their family had donated, a tribute to their father. The two other recipients of the said school unit include Dela Cruz Memorial Elementary School in V&G subdivision and Matlang Elementary School in Isabel, Leyte.

Moreover, Yaokasin explained that his family has chosen the San Fernando Elementary School as recipinet of the school building because of the happy memories he had in going there.

“San Fernando is both a memorable and a meaningful school to me. I have lots of experiences here. What is good is that the management of this institution is not afraid of inviting me every time they have activities. This is also my way of thanking the good people of this institution on all the support they have given me,” he said.

The inauguration and turn- over ceremony was graced by former Senator Ernesto Maceda, Department of Education Undersecretary Rizalino Rivera, Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce Incorporated vice chairman for Operation Barrio Schools Antonio Cosing, Tacloban Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce President Go-Tic Ching, OIC-regional director of DepEd 8 Rebecca Ragrag, OIC city division superintendent Mariza Magan and Councilor Cristina Gonzales-Romualdez representing Mayor Alfred Romualdez.
