19IB, DILG conducts leadership seminar to BPDO Officers


 
CARIGARA, Leyte--- In order to revitalize the duties and responsibilities of the Barangay Peace and Development Organization, a leadership seminar for its officers was launched by the Army’s 19th Infantry (Commando) Battalion and the Department of Interior and Local Government of Carigara, Leyte on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012.  
 
Lt. Col. Joel Alejandro S. Nacnac, the Commanding Officer of 19th IB said that a total of 25 BDPO officers from the 11 priority barangays of Carigara, Leyte had attended a one-day seminar which was conducted at Headquarters, Alpha “Assault” Company at Brgy. Tinaguban, Carigara, Leyte.
 
It can be recalled that the Barangay Peace and Development Organization (BPDO) was created during series of Army peace forum and bayanihan activities in the different barangays of Carigara, Leyte.  
 
A Peace Forum is a multi-sectoral initiative to have a whole of society approach in solving conflict issues. It is a conflict resolution activity where people are given the opportunity to discuss and take action on the most important issues affecting peace in their own communities.
 
“With this seminar, I am confident that our BPDO officers will become more responsible in discharging their duties as peace and development watchers in the barangays”, Nacnac said.
 
The Leadership Seminar for BPDO officers includes lectures and workshop by the Mr. Ronald M. Acebedo, the Municipal Local Government Operations Officer of Carigara, Leyte.
 
Meanwhile, military resource speakers also discussed on disaster preparedness and information gathering.
