TACLOBAN CITY – A provincial legislator is hoping that a recent shooting incident involving bodyguards of local politicians in a town here in the province of Leyte would not become a prelude to a bloody election this May 2013.

Majority Floor Leader and Leyte fifth district Board Member Carlo Loreto said that the incident happened between a bodyguard of the incumbent municipal mayor of Merida, Leyte, Mayor Marthon Solaña who was shot to death by a gunman identified as a supporter of a Municipal Councilor Tony Martinez who is to run for mayoral seat in the town of Merida.

Martinez is said to be a cousin of Leyte 4rd District Representative Lucy Torres-Gomez.

An incumbent municipal councilor was also hit by a bullet, but he is currently under operation said Board Member Loreto.

“We want that the Police Provincial Office would investigate this incident because we don’t want this to become an introduction to violence that might transpire in next year’s election,” Loreto said.

“This should be given solution now, because it may trigger into something this coming election and we want to stop that as of this time,,, violence has no place in election in Leyte,” Loreto stressed.

To prevent further similar incident to happened, the member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan through the resolution filed by Loreto seek the PNP Provincial Office of Leyte to conduct thorough investigation, to give justice to the victims and put the perpetrator behind bars.

“If another incident like this happened again in the future, political rivals might sought revenge each time their allies is killed by other camp,” Loreto explains.
