DOT forwards papers for rehab of MacArthur Shrine and National Park

TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Tourism in this region had already forwarded the documents that the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority(TIEZA) needs from said office for the rehabilitation works of MacArthur Shrine and National Park.
DOT Regional Director Karina Rosa Tiopes said in an interview that just last week, they already forwarded the documents that TIEZA sought from their office.
“We already sent them the things that they need from us and they are just waiting for the Palo LGU to give them their plan,” Tiopes said.
Rehabilitating the MacArthur Shrine and National Park had been one of the plans of Palo Mayor Remedios “Matin” Petilla, who had sought assistance from the DOT in looking for agency that could helped them in the facelift of the park, which is considered as one of the major landmarks in the region.
It is the site where the annual Leyte Landings Commemoration is being held, but according to Mayor Petilla, the place was neglected by previous administration of the town reason why some of its facilities are now not working like the lights around the park.
Petilla added that comfort rooms or toilets will also be added in the area along with kiosk wherein souvenir and pasalubong items are to be sold.
Riprap or sea wall at the park would also be improved, according to Petilla, which Tiopes also confirmed in the interview.
“We are not sure how much fund are to be given by TIEZA but mostly the fund they usually give for rehabilitation for tourism sites cost from P1 million to P5 million,” Tiopes said.
Once this rehabilitation of McArthur Park, according to Tiopes is done, this would help a lot in improving more the tourists arrival in the area.
She added that those who are in-charge in the supervision of the park must ensure to keep the facilities that are to be put in the area well maintained.
