DPWH-DTI Convergence align infrastructure to industrial and trade development

BARAS, Palo, Leyte - - The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Convergence Program align infrastructure development to trade and industry.

Said Convergence Program dubbed as Roads Leveraging Linkages for Industry and Trade (ROLL IT) links road connectivity for trade industry development. The program will leverage on the success of the Department of Public Works and Highway and Department of Tourism (DPWH-DOT) Convergence Program on Tourism Road Infrastructure Program (TRIP) that will lead to the upgrading of roads leading to tourist destinations.

“Our agency have paved most of the national roads in Leyte, in fact, we need to build more roads in Samar Island. Through better road infrastructure connecting the industries, industrial and regional development strategy can be realized. These will further facilitate dispersal of industries thus, creating more jobs and income opportunities in the region,” OIC Director Edgar B. Tabacon disclosed.

“The proposed Babatngon International Seaport which will be constructed in Babatngon, Leyte is now strongly lobbied at the Regional Development Council (RDC). While the proposed 6-lane Tacloban By-Pass Extension has been approved by Secretary Villar and is now for funding,” he added.

OIC Director Tabacon urged the employees to support and take advantage of all these good opportunities that our agency embarks on and help each other towards fulfillment and realization of these projects.

DPWH-DTI Convergence Program Memorandum of Agreement have been signed by DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez and DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar last November 2016.

The program is envisioned to further fuel the recent high growth of domestic investments as well as the surge in foreign direct investments of the country through more road projects.
