“She was killed. Not in an encounter, but she was killed intentionally.”
Last February 14, an alleged member of the New People's Army was killed due to a firefight in Bobon, Northern Samar. The suspected member of the red army was identified as Bernadette Lutao. According to the reports, Lutao is the wife of the alleged NPA leader Salvador Nordan.
The statement released by the Philippine Army stating that the troops of the 43rd Infantry Battalion, 8th Infantry Division conducted a combat operation in the said town resulting the death of Lutao is contrary to the reports of the residents. Based on the investigation conducted by Northern Samar Small Farmers Association, Bernadette Lutao, a farmer-leader in their barangay, was shot dead and no encounter took place in Sitio Cabaywa, Brgy. Santander, Bobon, Northern Samar.
“The military fooled us again. She was killed. Not in an encounter, but she was killed intentionally”, said Samahan han Gudti nga Parag-uma ha Sinirangan Bisayas (SAGUPA- SB) Secretary General Nestor Lebico. “The military considers the death of this ordinary farmer as a victory. We now see the dangerous consequences of Duterte's all-out war”, he added.
Meanwhile, the farmers association in Northern Samar is yet to conduct further investigation into the incident.#
