Tanauaneño’s Lords 7th Skim Open

Tanauan, Leyte - As it was expected, Tanauaneño’s once again lord the shoreline of the skim boarding capital of the Philippines in the 7th National Skim Open held at the shoreline of Bantay-Dagat Tanauan, Leyte which was co-sponsored by the An Waray Partylist that makes is the biggest and grandest skim boarding event ever held in the said town.

More than 60 skimmers coming from all over the country mainly from Cebu, Makati, Cavite, some part of Mindanao and provinces in Eastern Visayas gather as early as after Holy Week at the skim camp located at Bantay-Dagat area of Tanauan to prepare for the said event.

For this year's 7th Skim Open winners, from the Groumet Division are Niño Mercado of Tanauan, Leyte whose in 4th Place receiving a cash prize of P3, 000, Hendrick Vargas of Tanauan in 3rd Place with P5, 000 as cash prize, Leader Apita of Borongan in 2nd Place with P7, 000 as cash prize and Carl Gabas of Tanauan who was declared as this years Champion in the said division and received P10, 000 cash prize.

In Wahine Division winners are in 4th Place is Arlene Nonato from Makati City, Jamaica Salceda of Tolosa in 3rd Place, Sheryl Pajelleno of Tanauan in 2nd Place while this years champion is 12 years old, Jona Ibañez of Tanauan.

All winners receive cash prize of P3, 000; P5, 000; P7, 000 and P10, 000 respectively.

In the much anticipated Open Division the biggest category in the Skim open event 4th place winner is Obet Yanuario of Tanauan with P10, 000 cash prize; Leo Espada of Tanauan was in 3rd Place receiving P25, 000 cash prize, in 2nd place was Arjun Jimenez from Cebu who receives P50, 000 while Brando Espada was declared as this years champion and receives P100, 000.

Skim boarding has been the main tourism attraction of Tanauan that draws hundreds of spectators every month of April and December that is why the local government unit of the said together with the help of the provincial government of Leyte and the regional office of the Department of Tourism are helping one another in pushing the tourism aspect of the said water sport.

In this year’s event the organizers was able to tap-up the sectoral representation group and region resident party-list the An Waray to help them in funding the said event which was gladly accepted by its 1st Representative Cong. Florencio Gabriel “Bem” Noel who promised to support the 8th Skim Open that is to be held in the month of December of this year.

Aside from the skim boarding competition, other activities held are Pump Race, Bugsay Race, Wall Climbing competition and Bikini open.

The show was hosted by television/film actress/fashion host and commercial model Angel Aquino while reggae group Brownman Revival and Retrospect delighted the audience with their performances in the opening and closing ceremony respectively.
